Also, my grandmother once mentioned that her Grandmother,  came from a place called Inishmaan, on the Aran Islands. I don't know if that helps at all or even whether any records exist for the Aran Islands.

You dont mention a timeframe but I'd guess that it probably these would be pre-civil records you would be searching for. The availability of records would depend on the religion of the family - if they were Catholic then it seem that the parish records only go back to 1874. See the Irish Times Aran Island RC Records

It's possible that for dates before that at least some of baptisms/marriages for the islanders took place on the mainland somewhere (i.e. Co. Clare or Co. Galway)

Hi,below is a link to some census records for 1901 and 1911 census of
Arklow co. Wicklow which includes Allen families with extra details which may
be of use in identifying your family if they were in this area at the time of the 1901 in particular.
