Twins?
« on: Wednesday 28 April 10 14:35 BST (UK) »
Hi,

On the 1911 census it states that my 3x Great Grandmother had 2 children and one had died.

I am currently looking through the births and death records to find the child who died.

My 3 x Great Grandmother had a daughter Florence A Lockton born 1907 Grantham.

On the same quarter there is a birth for a Arthur Alexander lockton and I have found a death record for Arthur in 1909.

Florence's volume and page number is 7a page 444 and Arthur's page number is 442.

Could Arthur be Florence's twin brother, is it likely that twins would have different page numbers?

Any help would be truly appreciated.

Kelly.

Sounds a bit unlikely to me. What was your 3x gt grandmother's maiden name?

Hi Temic,

Emma's surname was Lockton, she had Florence a few years before she married.

Kelly.  :)

I'm in the same boat as you. But hunting two siblings that are born at different times. So far 7 wrong certs and now the price has gone up I might never know who they were. As a rule twins usually had consecutive numbers on the register if registered at the same time. They might not have been registered together depending on circumstances. Try parish records as they may list some of the information you require.

Hi Panda,

So I suppose it could be possible that they are twins.  :-\

I hope you find the two siblings you are looking for.  :)

Kelly.

Panda's right to say that something odd happened and that it's possible that the twins were registered on separate pages. But a couple of questions/thought occured to me that may or may not be of help:

are you expecting twins? (so to speak!) Could the children have been born a couple of years apart? (Has been known, without wishing to cast aspersions on the character of your ancestor!)

did your 3x gt grandmother marry before the 1911 census, and have a child in her married name that died?

then there's mis-indexing: you're presumably only looking at the GRO index. It might be worth looking at the Grantham Registry Office index.

then again, it might also be that the child may not have been registered if s/he died within a few days - and stillborns were only registered from 1927.

Hi Panda,

My 3x gt Grandmother got married 9 months before the 1911.

There are 2 possible baby deaths registered in her married name, which I have sent the relevent registry office an email to check the mothers name of the children.

I have spoken to older family members and they told me that Emma and her first husband had four children, one of which died as a young baby. I have found the births for the four children and the death record for the baby.

I thought that Emma may have had another child before she married as my older relatives are certain that Emma didn't have another child who died with her first husband.

Hi Kelly

I have been in touch with the Grantham cemetary staff and they have found the following info.

Buried in Section 14  6U  in an unmarked unpurchased grave are.

Richard Colman Pretty                aged 18mths   28 April 1890
Arthur   LOCKTON                        aged 6hrs       31 August 1901
George William Pretty                  23 days           5 April 1906
Arthur Alexandra LOCKTON        aged 2yrs.       13 November 1909
Sarah Ann Springfield                  aged 28yrs     31 March 1913

So it looks like Florence and Arthur A Lockton were twins.

Now I have the date of his death I will have a look in the library on Sat.for the writeup (if there is one?)in the Grantham Journal.

Kathy

Hi Kathy,

Thank you so much for your help, it is truly appreciated.

How sad that there are 4 babies in the grave.  :'(

I wonder if the other Arthur lockton is somehow related.  :-\

Thank you again Kathy for all of your help.

Kind regards

Kelly.
