1891/1901 census?
« on: Wednesday 28 April 10 16:41 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had access to the Scottish 1891 & 1901 census?

I was looking for an Elizabeth Cherry, born in Scotland in April 1885.
Not much to go on I know.

This is actually not personal but more for work and one of my co-workers. During the summer we work at two local museums. My co-worker has been doing the genealogy of the family of the house we work at, and anyone connected with them and Elizabeth Cherry appears in the household on the 1911 census working as the only domestic servant. Her birth date of April 1885 was listed and she was 21 at the time of the census. We do have some info that she might have immigrated in 1908.

Anyways I figured I had nothing to lose by asking...;)

Hi

If she is shown as 21 on the 1911 census - that would make her birthyear 1889/1890 - not April 1885

1891 - one b Cambuslang Lanarkshire 1885 but IGI shows her b 18.7.1884.

There are 4 entries b 1889 - 2 Elizabeth's, 1 Eliza and an Eliz J which could be Elizabeth or Eliza

Can't find a good match in the Scottish records but this info from Passenger lists:

She returned to Scotland for a trip and then returned to Canada  (departing Glasgow) in 1930, arriving Quebec 9 Nov 1930 on board the Athenia

Ships list has her aged 40 in. Information that she had been in Canada from 7th July 1908 to 6th October 1930. Origin country - Scotland.

Returning to 33 Albert Street, ?, Windsor, N.S

Maybe the death of a relative   :-\

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She arrived on 8th July 1908 at Halifax, N.S. from Liverpool  on board the Carthaginian as Miss Lizzy Cherry, aged 18.Destination given as Windsor. She might have been travelling with an Agnes Grey (immediately after her on list, same age, same destination, also from Scotland)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Two Lizzie Cherrys showing on the 1901 with approx dob - will investigate further.

I stumbled onto this site while doing some research about my great grandmother Agnes Leslie Gray.
She sailed from Scotland to Halifax with a Lizzie Cherry aboard the Carthaginian. I'm trying to find info about my grandmothers parents. George and Leslie Gray.It's amazing what you can find online, its been fun researching.
