Charles Lunn
« on: Wednesday 28 April 10 19:26 BST (UK) »
I am having a rough time - I think there must be something drastically wrong.  I am trying to trace Charles Lunn born around 1862 Rotherhithe.  I can find him in the 1881 census but not in any 1871  - I thought I saw a reference to a court case in 1875 but cannot find info.  When asking for the Birth Certificate (as he is listed as being born 1862 on BMD index) I was sent one for Charlotte and was told there is an error and this must be Charlotte's entry.  Do you think he adopted the name Lunn as in 1881 he is living with a Gd Father - (god father or grand father) I dont know.  Apparently he never mentioned his family.  May be he was in prison or disowned - any suggestions very gratefully received.

There's a Lunn of Rotherhilde mentioned in this thread but perhaps it's a common surname in the area-

Is he the Charles Lunn married to Ellen in 1901.   Charles Lunn married Ellen Neck 2nd June 1888 Lewisham, All saints Hatcham Park.  Charles is a Cook.  The end of the certificate has been chopped off so the father's names are almost missing but it looks as if it is going to say William for Charles father.

ADDING, however I see the Charles I saw in 1901 is a tobacconist.

In 1881 he is a pastry cook isnt he.

I cannot see the end of the certificate to see if it says deceased or William's (if that is what it says) occupation.

Yes he was a pastry cook - living with William Mabbs do you think there is a connection there or did they just say Gd Father to get out of situations

The bride & groom were both residing at 86 Clifton Crescent.

The witnesses were Thomas Neck & Emma Ancona
