Can't stop now -  ;)

Worked for Lever brothers in Port Sunlight - may have gone back there.

You know, aside from trying the regiment and Lever brothers, it might be worth a try giving Radio Merseyside a call - Billy and Wally lwould ove stuff like this or Roger Philips. Maybe they can connect you to the family given the details you have now.

Looks like he was born 5 July 1894 and died in or around Knowsley area in 1977.

Just to clarify the kilt thing.

I don't suppose you know if this regiment's kilt was a tartan or a plain kilt  :-\

I have a photo of a soldier in a plain kilt and one in a tartan kilt. It would be great if I could identify one of these men as Edward Cooper   ;D

No expert on these things, but it looks like tartan to me. However, having Scottish ancestry myself, I do know there are various kilts for various occasions - plain and tartan for full dress or service dress or whatever. So, IMO, both pictures could be him...no help at all that, sorry.

See if this helps

The Forbes tartan kilt was adopted by the regiment and the Highland full dress uniform featured a khaki tunic with scarlet collar and facings together with a feather bonnet or glengarry and tartan plaid. A party of men went to South Africa with the 4th Service Company of the Gordon Highlanders and were attached to the 1st Battalion of that regiment. With HQ established in Fraser Street in the Liverpool city centre, the home of the Scottish until 1967.

In 1914 the Liverpool Scottish was mobilised at the outset of war and moved to France on 1st/2nd November 1914, one of the first Territorial battalions to do so. At this stage of the war, officers still carried swords.... but not for long!

Looks like the family must've had Scottish roots:
The composition of the Liverpool Scottish was mainly middle-class and affluent, due to the fees charged for the elaborate uniform, the tartan material, and the regular subscription fees, as well as the time needed to be able to give to the Battalion. Most working-class Scotsmen in Liverpool had neither the time nor the money.

The Liverpool Scottish have an archive and if you do not trace relatives I am sure they would like to hear from you.
The Webmaster of their Site is Major Ian Riley. He can be contacted at <ilrileyATliverpoolscottish.org.uk>  [put @ in place of AT]

Their tartan was the Forbes [which has stripes] but a photo might show a plain kilt, or a kilt cover in plain material.

Manchester Street overlooks the original Mersey road tunnel.

Failing that, maybe the British Legion in the area could help?

A Medal Index Card at the National Archives website confirms the regimental number of Edward K. Cooper as 355332.  This is from a later sequence of numbers used by the Liverpool Scottish - those who went over to France in the first batch had four-figure numbers.
My earlier post may have implied that the regiment still functions.  Sadly it has been downsized several times over the years in successive cuts, but its memories are kept alive by a team of historians, archivists and researchers who can tell you anything you want to know about the battalion's history:
