Sydney green
« on: Saturday 01 May 10 13:00 BST (UK) »
hi i'm new to this. I am trying to trace any relatives or information on my fathers side of the family. his name was Sydney Green and he was born in Aston , Birmingham in 1909. He had numerous brothers and sisters but sadly lost touch with all of them. His father was called Harold and , (we think) owned a small brass factory in Birmingham. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 1911 census sounds like an ideal way to find out his siblings (at that date) - you will have to search it yourself tho, as lookups are restricted due to the T's & C's of the FindMyPast/Brightsolid owners of the site

http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx

There are searching hints and tips in the Census Resource Forum on here  :)

Is this his Birth entry ?

Births Dec 1909

GREEN  Sydney Harold    Aston  6d 320

can you confirm that his Father is stated as Harold on that Birth Paper, or on his Marriage Lines ?

late Sept would work for a Dec quarter (Oct, Nov & Dec) registration. You get 6 weeks to register.

What about Harold? Is that name verbal, or have you seen it on a Marriage Certificate or similar?

ah thank you i didn't realise things went in quarters. Harold is verbal from my mother but Charles has also been mentioned, as well as some of the sibling names. I am seeing my mother next week so hope to get more information but its difficult as she is very forgetful and thinks she has lost her marriage certificate. I really appreciate your help, I hadn't a clue where to start, just a desire to find out a bit more about my background.

happy to help, just ask  ;)

PS. You can get a duplicate of their marriage Cert from the GRO at:-

    www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

£9.25 online with a card, and threquired Index information - any idea when and where they married? Mums maiden name would help, but PM me with it as she's alive, she prob wont want it publised on here  :P
