Teresa's parents married 29 years (and 3 out of their 7 children were dead by 1911) so it should be possible to get her parents' marriage certificate, etc.
1901 census should be put online June 2010 and might get you more details.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

There are also some Dublin church records online and found a marriage between a Francis Mills of 34 Meath St. to Maria Quinn (perhaps just a strange co-incidence).

Not sure if this is your Patrick Quinn or not, but here goes.

There is a well known Irish song I remember titled "Bachelor's Walk" which mentions Patrick Quinn. The song was written after 3 civilians were killed on Bachelor's Walk, Dublin (by the river Liffey, Northside ) in relation to moving arms to a Christian Brothers house there from the Howth Gun Running incident on on 26 July 1914.

The Kings Own Scottish Borderers (British Army Regiment) opened fire and killed 3 civilians.

The lyric is below here and after that a link to a concise explanation of the events that day in 1914:

"God rest the souls of those who sleep apart from earthly sin,
Including Mrs. Duffy, James Brennan and Patrick Quinn;
But we will yet avenge them and the time will surely come,
That we'll make the Scottish Borderers pay for the cowardly deeds they've done"

The Patrick Quinn killed at Batchelor's Walk was 46 years old at the time, if that helps.

Dara.

Although if your Great Grandmother said "often said she had a medal somewhere for something he did and its believed that she received a pension also", I would suggest you check to see if he is listed as receiving a pension from the Defence Forces in Ireland (assuming he was not in a British Regiment).

There is also a list, again for next of kin, of medals given for The War of Independence and the Civil War.

The following is a good resource on how to go about it. it is a bit of a hassle as you have to send a Birth Cert and establish you are next of kin etc.

Hi again,

I was recently at a family funeral and got a chance to speak to Patrick Quinn's grand daughter about him to try and clear up some of the facts so here goes....

He served in WWI. Enlisted by 1915 (on his marriage cert as a Soldier) not enlisted in 1911. Wife got a pension from British army.
He was active during the War of Independence in Kerry (but don't know which side he was on)
He died in Kerry 1921/22 (shot or blown up) and was buried there...it took his daughter years to find out where he was buried

I have found lots of info on his wife and kids but have no idea where to turn now for info on Patrick. Any adeas what I do now? :-\

I think I may have some info for you. Hopefully it is the same Patrick Quinn.

From the list of those KIA (Killed In Action) or Died of Wounds 1922/23
NATIONAL ARMY (AKA Free State Army)
KERRY

Name                           Unit                    Killed           Where        Home
QUINN, PATRICK, PTE    Dublin Guard       02/08/22     Kilfenora    Poolbeg St., Dublin

The Dublin Guard (his Unit) were sent in during the Kerry Landings by sea to attempt (successfully) to put an end to the Civil War which was continuing mainly in Munster.
