Hi Daisy

In case you might think that I left out a whole chunk of info last year, I've just discovered a very interesting feature of the online MIS compared with the transcribed  booklets produced by the Scottish Genealogy Society.

The online one for 142 Borgue has:

In memory of Alexander McMinn, who died at Knockmuck, 15th August 1852, aged 66 years. Also Mary Milroy, his spouse, who died 25th April 1859, aged 74. John McMinn, their son, died 27th March 1827, aged 14. Mary their daughter, died 2nd Oct 1836, aged 7. William their son, died at Kirkpatrick Durham, 30th July 1849, aged 38. Jane Crosbie, wife of James McMinn, who died at Gatehouse, 14th Nov 1837, aged 27 years. Thomas McMinn, their son, died in London, 15th August 1876, aged 56 years. Janet their daughter, died at Knockmuck, 10th Oct’r 1877, aged 61 years. Alexander their son, died at Woolwich, 25th Dec’r 1878, aged 71 years. Peter, their son, died at Knockmuck, 15th March 1904, aged 78 years. James their son, who died in Dublin, 25th March 1895, aged 85 years. Isabella their daughter, who died at Knockmuck, 6th Feb’y 1906, aged 84 years. Alexander Douglas, grandson, who died 27th March 1936, aged 84 years.

The booklet has this info :

IAlex McMinn d.Knockmuck 15 Aug 1852, aged 68
wife Mary Milroy d. 25 April 1859 aged 74
also descendants.
son John d. 27 March 1827 aged 14
daughter Mary d, 2 Oct 1836 aged 7
son William d. Kirkpatrick Durham 30 July 1849 aged 39
son James d Dublin 25 March 1895 aged 85
son Thomas d. London 15 August 1876 aged 56
daughter Janet d. Knockmuck 10 October 1877 aged 61
son Alex d. Knockmuck 15 March 1904 aged 78   - this Alex b.c. 1826
daughter Isabella d Knockmuck 6 Feb 1906 aged 84
grandson Alex Douglas d 17 Mar 1936 aged 84

I'm wondering how many other discrepancies there are  ???

Hopefully not too many!  It did kind of stall things for a while...are they still printing that leaflet?  Thank goodness for the online MI's!

But mistakes do get made, (by the Scottish Genealogy Soc. in this case) I am just so grateful that we found this one out!

I'm a wee bit concerned now though. I just wonder what else might have been missed  :-\

I'll have a more detailed look in my Kirkcudbright bits and pieces  to see if \i can find anything about   Alexander MM and Margaret Sproat tomorrow. There are quite a lot of Sproats in the Borgue MIs

Hi Daisy Loo Monica Heywood Andy JAP & Gadget - as well as others whose names are not known to me at present!

I descend from Alexander McMinn who m Alice nee Ohara - you may have seen earlier posting in the line requesting help with Ohara - which we now believe to be from Clonmel Tipperary Eire.

Alexander was born 1832 Borgue Kirkudbright - my Great Grandfather and is son of William McMinn who m Grace nee Clark at Borgue (Marr Cert and B/Cert obtained for Alexander and his and his parents marriage).  Just been in contact with 4th cousin once removed who shares Alexander (father of our William) as a common ancestor. My 3x Great Grandfather would be her Alexander B Twynholm Rerrick in some records and McMinn family history plot deepens.

Any further information back beyond this Alexander which may come to light from SP site would be much appreciated.  Where exactly is Knockmuck - does anyone know from the map?

Since I have no earlier postings than those 2 and 3 May 2010 - any you can send me would perhaps assist me to understand  Cheers

Hi Radhima

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Great to have you on board on the McMinn side - kept many of us hunting around for a while!

This is one of the main posts by Daisy Loo (a couple of links to previous posts on there also).

Monica  :)

Added: Forgot to add the link didn't I  :P But see you have now found it!

Hi Radhima...or should I call you 4th cousin once removed!  Welcome back to Rootchat!

Yes, my Alexander b.1807 was brother to William b.1811.  The father of these two brothers, Alexander McMinn b.1785, Twynholm KKD, (our common ancestor)

Knockmuck is in Borgue, and I actually found an old map of this area, with houses shown.  I'll try and find where I saved it to and send you the link.

Radhima, if you want to dig on about Grace Clark, you may be better off starting a brand new thread.  ;D You might get more help that way.

I found this all very interesting. The John McMinn mentioned by Monica (married to Irvine Conning) is my 3rd great grandfather, buried in the Borgue church cemetery.
