Deciphering military speak help needed
« on: Sunday 02 May 10 15:17 BST (UK) »
Following some wonderful help on the Lancashire board I was given the following info;

"John Singleton. 268144 Pte 346 H.S EM Co ( not sure what all that means? I would ask on the armed forces boards)
Now i found a Medal card for him which gives him As Cheshire regiment number 42874 then tranfered to the Labour Corps 268144."

Can anyone help with what it means or where to find out more?

... except that Home Service (Employment) Companies were numbered 450 to 689 (tho' only 200 were actually formed).
346 should be a Home Service (Works) Company.
Looks like there's a misprint/misreading/misunderstanding somewhere!

Looking back at the original post in "Lancashire" I see that the information  comes from the 1918 absent voters list.

Ask the person who gave you the  info if they could possibly check the entry
