« on: Monday 03 May 10 00:08 BST (UK) »
Hello from Idaho  :) I am trying to find any info on John Fidge my GGGrandfather.he was born in 1817 Maidstone Kent. He is on the 1841 and 1851 census but after that there is no trace of him or his wife Rebecca.I do know he served in the 1st Royal Dragoons and had 2 children George and Eliza who died when she was 5years old.
Can anyone help me with this project please

If George is the George Christopher who married twice, second time to Elizabeth.  He does not state his father is deceased on that certificate although that does not mean to say he was still alive.

Hi

LMA is the London Metropolitan Archives

I was following the same chap as Carolw.   He is George Christopher born Manchester father on wedding certificates down as John Fidge.

But obviously not the correct George Fidge.

We might have the wrong George Fidge. My George was living in Portsmouth   with his wife Elizabeth nee Clark and serving in the RMA. He joined in 1873 and retired 1894 on health grounds he died in 1916. Would it be unusual for a man to go from a  clerk to a career soldier?
