OTTOWELL family in 19th century Spennymoor
« on: Wednesday 05 May 10 11:27 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the burial place of Benjamin OTTOWELL, possibly in Spennymoor.   His date of death is unknown but he was alive in the early 1870s aged around 30 so could have survived well into the 1900s.   He had a wife Hannah and children Elizabeth and Joseph.   Thank you,  Rogerina

Hi Rogerina - Benjamin must have died between 1871 and 1881, as his wife Hannah is shown as a widow in the 1881 census.
The surname has been indexed as Ottonell.

Benjamin's widow remarried in the 3rd quarter of 1883 Auckland 10a 318a, to Edward Young. In the 1891 census sons William and Joseph Ottowell are with Hannah and Edward in Bishop Auckland.

Thanks Jennifer for taking so much trouble.  Finding the spelling mistake in the name is very useful and this has also uncovered an extra child we didn't know about.   Yes we can't find Benjamin's death and that's the current difficulty.  I hoped a discovery of an MI in Spennymoor churchyard would solve it.  So I remain hopeful.  But thanks again for the part you've played.   Rogerina

Here's a possibility - the age isn't quite right, but close.
Benjamin Otterwell, aged 33. 2nd quarter 1877, Stockton 10a, 53.

Durham Records Online have a burial of Benjamin Otterwell in 1877, aged 33 in the Stockton district.

DRO is a pay site so you'd need to buy credits to view the date & place of burial.
