Edward Davies baptism 1820 Vaynor?
« on: Thursday 06 May 10 08:08 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm trying to track down the parents of Edward Davies born in 1820 (He died in Maesteg in 1893 aged 73). On his second marriage certificate dated 16 April 1860 he's described as a widower and his father is named as William Davies (Roller). Edward was living in Llangynwyd at the time and lived in that area untill his death. His second wife was widow Sarah John (maiden name Treharne).

1861 census
R.G. 9/4073 Ancestry have transcribed 'where born'  as Venor Vaenos, Breconshire, Wales

In 1871
R.G. 10/5413
He's logged as born in Cefn Coed, Cymmer

1881
R.G 11/5327
He's logged as born in Merthyr

1891
R.G. 12/4450
He's logged as born in Brecknock (minor) (Vaynor?)

Ive not been able to find him in 1851 or his first wife but then I'm not sure where he may have been living prior to the marriage in 1860.

Any help in trying to track down his birth around the Merthyr area would be much appreciated.

there's a baptism in the IGI extracted batch C081511 for Vaynor

Edward bp 18/7/1823 son of William & Jane Davies

Only possible sibling in that batch is for Joseph bp 22/9/1823, so perhaps Edward not baptised as infant.

Possible in 1851 in Aberystruth, Monmouthshire Edward born somewhere that could be Vaynor married to Anne HO107/2447 folio 494 pg 11

Osprey was Joseph born to William and Jane? I'm being dense but are you saying they may have baptised Edward much later than his birth.

By the way many thanks for your help.

Yes, Joseph had parents of the same name, so it's either 2 different couples or one or other child not baptised as young infant as there's less than 9 months between baptisms.

You can get copies of the parish entries from the record office in Llandrindod Wells

There's a possible for Joseph born Vaynor in census entries as an innkeeper.
