John Paterson born 1846 Stoneykirk Wigtownshire his wife Ann and their family Mary, John , Margaret and Janet emigrated to Australia sometime after the 1881 census . I cannot find a death for either of them .

Could you please advise us  what their parents names were as Paterson/Patterson is a very common name

Also any idea of whereabouts in Australia they came to?

Hi ,
     His parents were John Paterson and Mary McKenna  he married Ann Provan  or Province born County Tyrone Ireland  in Penninghame Wigtownshire Ist. December 1865
He left for Australia after 1881 census and I believe he went to Queensland. His family on the 1881 census were

Mary born c 1866, John c1870, Margaret c 1878, Janet c 1880 all born in Govan ,Glasgow

His son John  married Emma Cooper on  9TH October 1901  at Glen Innes Queensland  he died in 1956.

That could be your Ann.

Son John Charles m. Glen Innes, New South Wales, and died QLD 1956

Yes you are right they are her parents. Are the death certificates like the ones here in Scotland give you cause of death and who registered etc.
Will it tell you if John is still alive?

Will have cause of death, birthplace, children's names. Will have name of spouse - not sure if alive/dead indicated, but I would think it would give that.
And, thats assuming the informant knew the family details.

Thank you for your help now the only other thing is it on line or what?
How about John he is the last of my gg grandfather's brothers and  I am desperate to find his death I have been looking for him for the last five years on and off  but never thought of him emigrating .I have trawled the Patersons at NRH here in Edinburgh and just lost him after the 1881 census.
