The person this child is buried with is Adeliza's son, Victor Stewart Helsdon b12/10/1888. He married Charlotte Leftwich in 1911, so am suprised his birth date was unknown.

Can anyone help me trace the wife of Captain/Pilot: John Benjamin Helsdon b 1850 Norfolk......Adeliza/Adelina Stewart b1864 Australia,.
Her parents were John Stewart and Margaret Fraser from Glasgow, they Emigrated in 1862 on the Sultana.

I can't find any death or Shipping records in that name, and the last sighting of her was in the Brisbane Courier 26/10/1892.

After that she dis-appears.

Unless Adeliza lived to c80 years ....... are you able to identify this Mrs HELSDON of the Spiritual Resource Centre who was advertising her Lecture and Flower Reading in Brisbane in 1929?

I have found that Victor Stewart Helsdon's wife Charlotte Leftwich died in 1912.

Birth of daughter to them, Davida Joyce Helsdon in 1913.

Hi Cando,

I noted her in the Newspaper advertisments too, and wondered.

Not once did they give her first intial, ,in the later years a Mr Helsdon appears at the same meetings. As the first Helsdons in Australia started from my relative John B, they are family for certain.

Adeliza has been referred to  as slighlty mad through family gossip. I  think people who attended or took part in Spiritualist Meetings might have been viewed that way. I tried to follow through on it,  she was a Committee member, gleamed from the account of the first ever annual meeting they had.

I got no further.

The unfortunate thing with the online QLD Bdm's is that you cannot do a search just using  the parents names without a surname which I can do with the Pioneer index for Qld.

It is possible she remarried after 1934.

I have checked out other states to the best of my resources but cannot locate her.

Hi Jenn,

Many thanks for trying other states for me.

I have found it a problem not being able to search by first name,  I think I got timed out because I was giving to wide a span of years when there were many with that surname...I am learning.

Her eldest daughter had no bad words to say about her mother, unlike what the children felt about their father...he was very unkind to all of them .
John married Adelzia when she was just seventeen, him being thirty and a man of the world she did not have an easy life with him at all. She had many beatings from him during those years...and you can't help but worry about what happened to her in the end after she issued that Writ against him.

She thinks this is the wife of another Helsdon man, Louis/Lewis as her mother has since mentioned it to her.

I did so hope it was going to be Adelzia.
