Mother's Surname? Completed Thankyou
« on: Friday 14 May 10 23:13 BST (UK) »
This is from the birth certificate of William Clow born 9th Oct 1840 at Wetheringsett Suffolk son of John Clow and Rebecca . Any ideas about Rebecca's surname would be really helpful.

My first guess would be Eteridge  :-\

Can you possibly enlarge it a bit more  ???

Yes I found that one. Also there are quite a few Eteridges and variants,  recorded on the monuments in Badingham church.
Can't quite get my head round the connections.

Sorry but I still see the name spelt with a double 'r'. I was taking it from the way the 'er' is written in 'formerly' and there is an extra 'r' as well.
All that besides it's likely to be one of a number of ways in which the name was spelt. I have 'Etheridge' (Fressingfield) in my tree and the variations are considerable.
Beautiful sunshine here in Suffolk today!

Can't really comment on the name but does a clean-up help?

From the original 72dpi resolution I am guessing hte image came from a digital camera. Perhaps a scan would show up more, or even another digital photo taken with macro.

Sorry I can't do anything about rescanning as it was sent to me as an email  attachment by my daughter. I'll have a word with her.
