Hi SDSan,

Welcome to Rootschat - great place for finding out things!     :)

The names of Elizabeth's siblings do indeed include a Jean (John). The full family is
Dad, Francois La Vavasseur Durrell m  Elizabeth Lefevure, and their children were,

Elizabeth, 1755 (we think - possibly baptised in Jersey - can't find record yet.)
Marie,
Francois Thomas,
Marguerite,
Pierre Henry,
Jean, 1773
Jeanne.

I originally had a John married to Elizabeth - a couple I picked up from IGI - they weren't the right folk for me but may well be yours - All apart from Elizabeth were baptised at the Threadneedle Street French Huguenot church in London, suggesting they were born in England.

Good luck with your searches.   :)

Many thanks Wiggy. I see from an earlier post in this thread that you (or someone) said:

"Elizabeth was the daughter of Francois Le Vavasseur Durrell and Elizabeth Le Fevure- then they dropped the French bit of the name -  Weavers escaping the troubles in  France and going to Jersey for refuge - some time before I gather. "

Can I ask where you got the information about anglicising the name, about Jersey and about the Durell's/Le Fevure's going there before coming to England? I'd love to hear more about any of this.

It was probably Richard who put the info on the board - He is the one who knows stuff about the Huguenots.  Interesting isn't it?   I've learnt so much from this thread.   (No I see it was my post - but something I learnt from Richard)

Put up a couple more posts on the thread  - or any thread, and then you can send and receive personal Messages - think you have to have posted three times before you can get PMs.  - I think!!

Hope you are making progress.

Quote from Ronlankshear - post 17 this thread.

You need to study the various possibles and look at naming patterns and try to find wills etc

This is interesting - it doesn't seem to follow with Thomas Jnr's family.   Just an observation - and a double check!  Still haven't found a Will - but am still looking.   ::)

Thanks for all the help Richard, Ron and Saddles (off air).  I think we've gone about as far as is possible at the moment so I'm going to label this as completed.  but I won't lock it (can you do that - complete without locking?) in case someone suddenly finds something absolutely terrific, when looking for something else, which they feel MUST be added!!

Much gratitude to you all,

Wiggy

I am interested in Francois Durel and Elizabeth Lefebvre (spelling varies) whose children were baptised at the French Protestant Church in Threadneedle Street between 1763-1780. They had a son Jean (bap. 1773) who MAY be my ancestor John Durell. Has anyone been able to find this couple's marriage or any other details about them? Unattributed information gives Francois' father as Isaac (1690-1759), son of Jacques and Jeanne Durel but I have not been able to find proof of this. I have also seen Francois called Le Vavasseur Durel but this form does not occur in his children's baptismal records. PS I think Francois and Elizabeth may also have had a son Richard: a Richard Durell son of Francis (a weaver) and Elizabeth was baptised at St. Matthew's Bethnal Green 7 April 1776.
