When you say moved do you mean it was near a bigger cemetery or part of a bigger cemetery and later merged with it?

She said that they burried him in a cemetery in benidorm and was told that some graves were going to be moved later that year to a grave in alicante and that she would be notified if that was the case!! She never heard a thing but no one seems to be able to find his grave any more!!

I would love to find it!!

Maybe his grave was moved to one in alicante. Is there a chance you can remember which one if your nan was told? If she was to be notified they must have given her the address of the cemetery.

Have you tried contacting funeral directors in Benidorm? They could probably give you the address and contact numbers of the local cemeteries. You could then contact them and ask them if they will check their records. If you have his full name and approximate date of death it should be possible.

Hi,

No. As I cant even find his death on Ancestry website.

I have just spoke to my nan who seems to think he was buried in a smaller cemetery and was then later moved to a larger Cemetery in Alicante

Thanks

His Death was registered on the GRO Abroad Indices in Valencia in 1967:
Ernest W Preston aged  60 Volume C Page 450 (I think - its a bit hard to read).

Regards,
Mo

The best thing to do is to send off for the cert. I dont think it will give a burial date or place but it will give a death date and place narrowing down the time frame for a burial.

Have you thought of maybe trying to contact the local English newspapers, I live in Almeria, we have 3 of them, 2 of which are on line, so you possibly e-mail to the letters page, and monitor any replies. If you got lucky someone may offer to help at the local level (the sun can be boring ;D ) finding cemeteries and or contacting a town hall.
Sorry to offer no more than that but I am 5 hours away, but will try to check for papers for you.

My father in law lived near Alicante in the 1970's. When he died hes was buried in the local cemetery,we were unable to attend the funeral as they bury people the next day. His wife (husbands step mother) told us that would be for 5 years then they dig you up and put you in the wall-around the edge of cemetery.  We got a call 5 years later asking if we would like to go and witness the event.  I have since been told this happens to non Catholics.
