Ross brick wall

Not getting anywhere with this family line at all.
Helen Rae Ross died on 30th December 2001 age 87 and there is a headstone in Camelon cemetery. Helen was married to George Murray who is also buried in Camelon along with George's parents William Murray died age 74 on 28 August 1935 and Jane Hamilton age 73 when she died on 2 September 1935.
They are all in the same grave.
Helen Rae Ross married George Murray in Camelon Manse on 14th March 1930. George was a motor driver and was 67 when he died on 14th April 1974.
Helen's parents were John Lawrence Ross and Helen Rae. It's Helen's parents that i'm having trouble trying to trace back any further as I have a lot of stuff on the Murray side of the family.

Scottish research is usually fairly easy since certificates and census records are available for that period.
Helen's birth certificate should list date and place of parents' marriage an which that information you can get their marriage certificate, proably find the parents in 1901 census, etc. See Scotland's People website for details on Scottish certificates and how to purchase credits to view the scanned images.

There is only one likely marriage showing for a couple with the names of Helen's parents and that is in 1899 in Stirlingshire. Helen Rae, bride, is indexed as Ellen Rae.

What was the occupation of father John Ross from daughter's marriage entry? We might be able to find a possible 1901 census entry if occupation was similar  :)

This might be them in 1901 perhaps for example:

John Ross 23 b. Blaskford, Perllin  ???..no occupation showing on the transcript
Ellen Ross 22 b. Camelon, Stirlingshrie
John Ross 1 b. Camelon, Stirlingshrie
John Kae 17, boarder, coal miner b. Camelon... I wonder if surname is RAE and possibly a brother to Helen?

Address: Thistle St, Falkirk

Possibly Helen with brother John in the 1891 census - everyone born in Camelon apart from father Andrew. There is a Hendry family boarding with them:

Andrew Rae 49, coal miner, b. Auchterarder, Perthshire
Mary Rae 48 b. Camelon, Stirlingshire
James Rae 14, iron moulder
Helen Rae 13
John Rae 7

Address: Main St, Falkirk landward

The marriage cert. will hopefully let you confirm details and work back. I assume you haven't as yet Helen Rae Ross' birth cert to let you confirm parents' marriage details.

Just in case the 'Blaskford, Perllin' turns out to be in Perthshire  ;) There is a birth registered there in 1877 for a John Laurence Ross.

But, as always with these things, a stage at a time!

Monica

Added: Throwing caution to the wind  ;D A possible for Blaskford, Perllin - Blackford Perth! And a possible entry for John in 1881:

John Ross 27, Farm Servant., b. Auchterarder, Perthshire
Mary Ross 30, woolen weaver b. Blackford, Perthshire
Robert Ross 4 b. Auchterarder, Perthshire
John Ross 3 b. Blackford, Perthshire
Isabella Ross 1 b. Blackford, Perthshire
Thomas Matthew 55, boarder, shoemaker b. Fowlis, Perthshire

Address: Mallis Wynd, Auchterarder, Perthshire

....all to be verified of course  ::)

Thanks for  the help so far. Regarding the birth of Helen Rae. There are four possibles.
Helen Rae 1878 Bothkennar
Helen Rae 1879 Falkirk Burgh
Helen Rae 1879 Falkirk Burgh (both have different statutory numbers)
Helen Smith Rae 1878 Falkirk Landward.

I've got the marriage certificate of John Ross and Ellen Smith Rae.
But having difficulty reading parents surnames and Fathers occupation. Ellen Smith Rae's Father was a coalminer and Mary Lawrence was John Ross's Mother. Will see if I can scan the important bit of the cert.

Looks like:

John Ross, labourer and Mary Law(u?)rence
Andrew Rae, coal miner and Mary Cxxxell

Looking at this IGI entry, I think, Helen's mother's name may be Connell. For some reason, there are two separate entries for the marriage for Andrew and Mary:

23 DEC 1860 Falkirk, Stirling
31 DEC 1860 Falkirk, Stirling
