John Dunigan born 1846 Mullingar

My great great grandfather was born in Mullingar in 1846. He subsequently married a Sarah Jane Austin and had 2 sons John and Henry Dunigan. I think his wife may have died as he is identified in the 1881 UK census with his sons as living in Canterbury and by 1891 was living in Dover. He enlisted in the 91st Regiment the Highlanders and his military record indicates he was re-engaged in 1863 and was promoted toorporal and then Sergeant in 1866. He was a tailor by profession.

Any information regarding his parents and siblings from the Mullingar area would be enormously appreciated as I'm having some difficulty in identifying any other family members. He eventually moved to Kent and lived in Canterbury and Dover where his family settled.

Have a look at this site.I had a look fo John but the oly thing that came up for that year was a John Donican but not in Mullingar.U can use the parish search to narrow it down ...but its a bit of a pain..

Do you have John & Sarah's marriage certificate?

The younger son is born ca 1873, so Sarah probably died after his birth or after the birth of a third child who also died - so around 1873 - 1875.

Cant see a marriage cert but I can see John b.29th Aug 1871 and Henry b. Feb 1873 both in Derry.(Info from Familysearch.org)

I checked Griffiths Valuation and there are 2 Dunigans listed in Mullingar John and James might be John father?
