Anyone going to Durham Records Office?
« on: Thursday 20 May 10 12:03 BST (UK) »
I am desperately looking for my Great (x3) Grandfather THOMAS BREWES.  Born ~ 1817.
Due to many transcriptional errors (or a possible feud in the family) the surname can be found as Brewes or Brewis.
I have found him in the 1861 and his birthplace is Chesterleestreet although I have found another census which has him in Pelton(which is a part of Chesterleestreet).  He had 3 sons (George - from who i am related, John and Robt ).  I am also struggling to find the marriage between him and his wife Isabella.  I have found a marriage listed ast 1846 between a Thomas Brewis and Isabella "Coates" but I am not sure this is them.  Isabella is from Jesmond, Newcastle.
From finding this info, I would love to know his parents, without this I am completely stuck and now that I no longer live in the N E, I would be very grateful to anyone who can find this out for me.

Hi

Have you tried the BishopTranscripts as this covers the dates you are looking at for Chester Le Street for a possible baptism of Thomas.

Click on Durham then you scroll to Chester Le Street with two sets of dates.

Hi

Don't know if you have seen this for 1851 but it seems they had a child Margaret in 1839. I am sure it is the same family as Thomas is a quarryman the same as 1861. Transcribed as Brewer
