Annie Gardner Cole
« on: Thursday 20 May 10 18:13 BST (UK) »
On 19 April 1830 at All Souls, Langham Place, St Marylebone, Middlesex an Annie Gardner Cole married an Edward Cullmer. Witnesses were William Cole & George Cole.
In the 1841 census (HO107/701/6/11/14) an Edward & Anne Cullmer with 4 children were living at Salmon Lane, Limehouse, Middlesex. All were born outside the county. Among the children was Susan aged 8.
An Edward Cullmer died of typhus in The Tap (ie a pub) in Bull & Mouth Street, City of London on 6 March 1849.
In the 1851 census (HO107/1526/26/44) an Ann Cullmer, Head, Widow, aged 39, born Warwickshire was living at Bartholomew Close, City of London, with her daughter Susan, unmarried, aged 18, born Kent and her sister Lucy Cole, unmarried, aged 33, born Oxfordshire. All three were recorded as needlewomen.
Bull & Mouth Street was a short walk from Bartholomew Close.

The sisters Ann, seemingly born ca 1812 in Warwickshire and Lucy, seemingly born ca 1818 in Oxfordshire appear to have been incomers into London in early Victorian times, presumably seeking work, from these counties which have a common border.

There is what appears to be an LDS pedigree showing an Ann Cole and a Lucy Cole as half-sisters, both having father Richard Cole born 1772, Tysoe, Warwickshire and died 1848 in Boddicott, Oxfordshire. The dob of this Ann was given as 1805, the daughter of Ann Garner (no D), compared with a dob of ca 1812 as given by the 1851 census, but this difference may just be age sensitivity on the census return. The dob for Lucy agrees with the 1851 census.

My road atlas shows that Tysoe Warwickshire & Bodicote Oxfordshire are less than 10 miles apart.

An Ann Gardner Culmer was buried at St Leonard's, Deal, Kent on 10 May 1852 aged 51 years. The 1861 census has a Lucy Cole, unmarried, aged 43, house servant, born Boddicott, Oxfordshire, living in Aston, Warwickshire.

Although Ann, the bride at All Souls in 1830 appears to be from the Bodicott / Tysoe Cole family, all of the children of Edward Cullmer appear to have been born in Kent (he was born in Dover), so there is some doubt in my mind about this being the correct marriage, yet there appears to be no other that fits. I've looked over several years and drawn a blank.

Is anyone out there researching this Cole / Coles family or have come across these folk in passing? If so I should be grateful for any assistance in sorting this out.
