Oh, that's interesting, JJ.....googled & got quite a few Ashers with Lyon in the name coming over direct from Eastern Europe, but none via Britain. Can't do anything much with Henry....except there was an Asher family in Leicester city centre (where William Asher married) who had a son born in 1862 named John H Asher....wonder if the H stood for Henry ?....gosh...this is a real spider's web......

Oh, I was thinking the one born in NY was 1880...he could JUST have been John H's son, then,,,,,but not with 1870

It doesn't matter what the name of the ship is, as it is just that, a name, I'm afraid...If William died young, as you believe and the boys were raised by Lyon, they might never remember their actual father was William. All those names are pretty usual forenames, so don't get your hopes up.  ;D J.J.

Thomas b. c.1841 married Henrietta Weese...found from a birth... but can't see a marriage ?
( Ellen ( now Smith) was the name of the mother if the census relationship is correct) Finding information is one thing, but you'll need some concrete evidence before hanging your hat on it. Perhaps someone can find a marriage

Thanks, JJ....need a dose of reality....just thought there was a tendency to name ships after places in the countries they normally sailed to , rather than just anywhere ? Well, Lyon definitely (or as definitely as you can say) got together with Elizabeth Barfield....on Nottm census records, his "wife" (can't find a marriage) is Elizabeth/Betsy born in Titchmarsh....only 4 possible Elizabeths within a reasonable time range that can't be accounted for elsewhere....one was Elizabeth Barfield & Lyon's son, Jacob, named his only daughter Elizabeth Barfield

please, no...we check both! I would guess that half a dozen Canadian Rootschatters are already on the case, they just aren't replying because they never found anything. Please don't make multiple threads on the same subjects, if anything, you'll get less interest.
