Looking for Great Grandfather Purdy
« on: Saturday 22 May 10 04:55 BST (UK) »
Hello:  I am looking for a lost Great Grandfather surname PURDY.  He married TISHER, Sarah born: 1822 in Middlesex.  Their children were:  Catherine, Frederick, Raffles Augustus R., and Edward.  Raffles is our family member.  I think his name might have been William, but I can't confirm that.  On a 1871 Census, Sarah is living at East Dean, Viney Hill, Gloucestershire.  I am located in Canada and I hope I have posted this message on the correct board as I have no idea where these places are located.  If anyone could assist me in locating his name or any other information, I would be very grateful.  Susan

There are two sure fire ways of finding out Raffles father's name and that is to obtain Raffles marriage certificate. The other is to buy a birth cert of any of the children other than Raffles and Edward who were both born in Dublin Ireland.
Raffles married Alice Mary Waymouth 4 April 1911 Victoria British Columbia
BCA number B71370 Registration number 1911-09-021818

Birth Registration Catherine Purdy March 1/4 1856 N. Aylesford vol 2a page 293

Crisane:  Thank you so much for your "speedy" reply.  Where did you find Catherine's birth registration and how did you discover that both Raffles and Edward were born in Ireland?  I knew Raffles was born in Ireland, but I didn't know Edward was as well.  I will order a marriage certificate - thanks for the advice.  Susan

Catherine and Frederick would appear to have been baptised at Chalk in Kent, parents  Charles William and Sarah

Hello Eyesee:  The information you sent is wonderful.  I now, at least, have the Great Grandfather name that I have been searching for.  I still don't know how you found it but I am so grateful that you did and that you took the time to reply to me.  Thanks so very much.  Susan

Hello Crisane:  That census and link are very useful for my search.  One name, Fisher, is surprising to me as I have been searching for "Tisher".  No wonder I wasn't having any luck.  Thank you so much as this information will open a lot more avenues for me.  This is amazing and thank you so much.  Susan
