EDWARD GILLAM
« on: Sunday 23 May 10 12:29 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I am looking for Edward Gillam(Gilham) he marries in 1803 in Putney. Working on the assumption that people got married about 20yrs of age that would make his birth date approx. 1783.

Looking on the IGI site there are quite a few Gillams  in Putney about this date but not my Edward.

Any help with this query would be much appreciated.

kind regards

Hi

It appears Edward married at St George Hanover Square

5th September 1803 St George, Hanover Square
Edward Gillam
Mary Webb
both of the parish, married by banns
Edward signed and Mary made her mark
Witnesses Isaac and Esther Parker.

Other than Edward and Mary having children baptised at Putney do you have any evidence that either were from Putney. They don't appear to have arrived for certain in Putney until 1809

EDWARD GILHAM
Birth:  08 MAR 1809
Christening:  26 MAR 1809   Putney, London
Father:  EDWARD GILHAM
Mother:  MARY

MATILDA GILLAM
Birth:  05 MAY 1812
Christening:  24 MAY 1812   Putney, London
Father:  EDWARD GILLAM
Mother:  MARY

What happened after 1812? Have you found Edward's burial?

Regards

Valda

Hi Valda

thanks for your reply, you are quite right why I thought they came from Putney I dont know. I did have this marriage I think it was you who found it for me originaly.

There is a story my father told which said we had Spanish blood in the family and not having found it up to now I was searching and came across a Richard Gillam married to Mary Torriano in 1716 in Putney. I was hoping they were Edwards grandparents(talk about getting ahead of myself). With this in mind I posted Putney whereas I should be looking for St George Hanover Square.

I have not found Edwards burial.

Any further assistance you can offer will be much appreciated.

kind regards

Janice

Hi Richard

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

The first thing to do is start with yourself and go backwards (parents, grandparents, great grandparents etc) following as many surnames as you want to or can, verifying information as you go. Don't start with the 1841 census and move forward, you'll have all sorts of problems.

Have a look at our beginners pages here

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,47.0.html

There's lots of useful info there.

You may even discover that they weren't from where you think they came from.

Also have a look at our introduction page and then go to guidelines for posting on the left hand side,

http://www.rootschat.com/help/index.php

We have a few rules, don't ask for info on living people, don't put you email address in topics and be careful not to break copyright laws.

Once you have made a couple more posts you can send and receive personal messages to exchange private information.

Hope this helps.
