To follow up my own post from a while back - the National Archives have the Naval service history for John Henry Christopher Breckels in document ADM188/380, available for download (for a fee). I have looked for it recently but couldn't find it in a catalogue search, so dug out the copy I obtained in 2006. The original document (and therefore the TNA index) has misspelled his name as Breckles - hope this helps if you were looking for it.

I would love to know more about what happened to him after he jumped ship on 6 Mar 1907.

Gardner (East London/Brighton/Birmingham)
Judge (East London)
Millroy (East London)

Thank you for that - I hadn't been able to find him but will look again. Maybe I can persuade one of my daughters (who both live in London) to go and get a copy? Can always try...........

Hi,

I am the granddaughter of John Henry Christopher Breckels and have been interested to see the information available in this thread.

John Henry Christopher and my grandmother (Ada May Inman) were married in 1916 in Sydney.  My father (Arthur Clemett Inman Breckels) was born later that year and my aunt (Irene Kathleen Inman Breckels) was born in 1921.  Both were born in Sydney.

They lived under the name Inman because he had jumped ship.  Arthur had 4 children (including myself) and Irene had 6 children (Irene and family lived in Western Australia where both grandparents died).

I have photos and more information if anyone would like to know more.

Jean

Good Morning Jean
Lovely to hear from you.
I am not directly related, but through John HC Breckels mother. She had a brother, Alexander Dougal Clemett, who married my relative Margaret Jane McKenzie (she was his second wife) and I always get sidetracked with the 'offshoots' particularly if they ate interesting, like the Breckels.

With regards Arthur, all I really know about him yet is birth and death and that his wife was Jean Beggs (if that is correct). Similarly with Irene, I have her birth and death, and that she was married to Arthur Godfrey, but no further details. I would love to learn more if you are happy to share. Did John stay in touch with his family in England? I have quite a lot about others in the family if there is anything you are missing.

I will PM you my email address.
Regards
Jan
