Lewis Luke Griffiths of Trevethin
« on: Wednesday 26 May 10 21:00 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with this mystery?

This is what we know so far...

Lewis Griffiths married Ellen March at the Parish church in Mamhilad on 15th March 1868, aged 24.

His residence at the time of the marriage was Cwmnanddu and father was William Griffiths.

Ellen was a 21 year old spinster of the same parish. Her father was Thomas March.

Lewis died 11th February 1870 at Cwmnantddu, Trevethin, aged 27, from Typhoid Fever. A couple of days later, Ellen Griffiths nee March (his wife) gave birth to a son, Lewis Luke Griffiths jnr. (16th Feb 1870) living in Butlers Row, Pentwyn, Abersychan.

What we want to know..... Where was Lewis Luke Griffiths senior born? (It would have been approx 1843/44).

Where was he in 1851? He was not on the Abersychan census.

Where was he in 1861? Again, not on the Abersychan census.

If anyone can help, we would love to hear from you!

Thank you so much my friend.

by the way, Ive just been advised that some of the records from the Pontypool area have been lost and so are incomplete. Does anyone know anything more on this?

I'm struggling on Lewis but here is Ellen in 1851:

HO107/ 2449/ 542/ 24

MARCH
Thomas H M 32 - iron weigher - Peel? Somersetsh
Thurza W M 27 - house keeping - Dowle do
Lae daughter 6 - Abersychan Monmouth
Elen do 3 - do do
William son 1 - Garn do
CHIVET
William lodger mar 27 - labour - Miles? Somerset
Martha wife mar 27 - do wife - do
John son 1 - Bristol

Address: Garndiffaith, Abersychan, Monmouthshire

Some of the 1861 records are indeed missing for this area, but Lewis should show up before then - especially if he is local (harder to determine whether those found further afield are the same chap)

Kind regards, Arranroots  ;)
