Marriage Frederick Forster 1853
« on: Friday 28 May 10 21:42 BST (UK) »
Hi could someone have a look and see if they can find the following marriage details please?

Frederick Forster married Elizabeth Burford Gravesend 1853. I have found this on FreeBMD and it says Q4 1853 Gravesend 2a 397. The problem is that I can't find out the name of the church otherwise I could look it up on CityArc.

I'm trying to find the names of parents and address.

This is not actually for me as such just trying to help someone.

Thanks

Unfortunately - to lookup a marriage in parish records - you need to know the church

I have mailed the folks who asked me to see what other info they might have.

There weren't that many possible churches in the Gravesend registration district at that time so it shouldn't take too long to view them on Cityark.  Try:

Milton Holy Trinity
Milton St Peter & Paul
Gravesend St George
Gravesend St James

Thanks Casalguidi

I had already gone through them on CityArc but couldn't see anything.

I have just had this sent to me

The info I have is marriage dated 1 Oct 1853, Baptist Chapel, Gravesend.

So that will probably mean the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Windmill Street, Gravesend. Any idea where I find that info? perhaps will have to mail them. I am just trying to find in my books here, I think there was also a Baptist church in Princes Street about that time, but it closed. Will know when I find the right book :-)

It might be worth mentioning that most non-conformist chapels didn't obtain their own license for performing marriages until much later in the 1800s thus the registrar would attend and perform and record the marriage ................ that could be the case with the chapel in question in which case the marriage will only be obtainable via the registry office.

Hi there
I am related to Frederick Forster. He was married in the Zion Chapel, according to his marriage certificate. His fathers name is William. I have tried to find further details on ancestry.co.uk. I think he was born in Marylebone on 14 October 1832. I believe his mothers name was Mary. He emigrated to South Africa in about 1856.  I would love to get more information on his parents.

Hi Domino

Was the Zoar Church in Peacock street also a baptist?
Iris :)

I think it was but not certain atm.

I have e-mailed Alan Spooner/Church Administrator at the Emanuel Baptist Church in Windmill Street about this marriage and below is his reply.

Hi there.
Whilst documents do not exist at Emmanuel Baptist Church to absolutely confirm your statement, I can advise that a marriage between the parties mentioned, did in fact take place on the 1st October 1853 in Gravesend, and that the ceremony could well have taken place at our premises (which were constructed in 1843 and then known as 'The Baptist Zion Chapel").
Hope this is of some use.
Kind regards.  Alan Spooner/Church Administrator
