Hi

I came across this picture of an 11th Hussar officer's uniform. Compair the Loops at the end of the braiding and the Toggles that are used instead of buttons in both pictures.

Yes I see what you mean, your Hussar is /must be quite high ranking as he has lots more decorative braiding than my young chap.  So if he is a Hussar which I assume is a cavalry regiment how do I find out more about the Hussars please?

NS
Try www.members.dca.net the link on the other I gave you appears broken, scroll to soldiers 1840 - 1920 and the look for Sgt and Trooper on Horseback.
It's amazing the info you can get googling, this is an enjoyable learning curve for me.

Regards

James

If you remember the photographs I posted of my grandfather in the 19th Hussars, his braiding was quite elaborate, and his rank was private, so the amount, is merely coincidental it would seem. If you can recall seeing a bunch of horse riders pulling a cannon and limber along, with a rider on each of the left hand horses, usually amidst pomp and circumstance, royal tattoo's etc, well, those were Hussars, they always appeared to have their jackets hanging off one shoulder all the time, the Russians adopted a similar trend after the Crimean War. Hussars are basically mounted military, as far as I can gather, Hussars and cavalry, are two seperate identities, I may stand corrected though....I wish my grandad was still alive, I could ask him...... ::)
