Surby Burials
« on: Monday 31 May 10 07:35 BST (UK) »
Hello Everybody,

I am wondering if anybody could possibly tell me where the nearest cemetary or churchyard would be to Surby.
From information given in the Rushen burial register, Isabella Taylor nee Gilmour was buried on the 30 January 1892. At the time of her death she was aged 37 years and according to the 1891 census, she and her family were residing in Surby.

She married her husband Thomas Taylor (Fisherman) at Kirk Rushen on 13 November 1880, I wondering whether her burial would have been whithin this graveyard.

Regards,

Povilas

there is only one yard in Rushen - see http://www.manxnotebook.com/gazateer/gyards/cems.htm
Surby (or Sorroby in older records) is a treen (old division of land usually comprising 4 quarterland farms) to south east of Fleshwick bay about 1mile north of Port Erin
