Thank you all above for your posts on this topic.  I am pleased you have questioned and then answered the "Bavaria" thing for Feil as this was my main query on the area.  I did believe that Feil was originally part of Bavaria (think it was split into Lower & Higher Bavaria) but then I did doubt myself when people said it was in Germany itself.

My ancestor actually left Bavaria prior to 1871 so as far as he was concerned he was born in Bavaria I guess.

This is an amazing site with amazing people who are all so willing to help a fellow researcher......I thank you all!!

Bavarian Pfalz - Palatine
The southern part of what is today the German State of Rheinland-Pfalz was actually once part Bavaria. Historically, this area has been known as a the "Rheinpfalz", "Rhennish Pfalz", "Rheinbayern" or "Palatinate" region. However, it is no longer a part of modern Bavaria.

The LDS database (www.familysearch.org) has information on the family. They appear in  New York in 1870 census with a 17 year old son Max born in N.Y. and again there in 1880 with 26 year old Max. There's also a marriage record (1884 Manhattan) for Charles Eninger son of John Baptist Eninger & Amalie Gerber.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Jovi75,

Feil is now Feilbingert https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feilbingert and had been Bavarian (Palatinate) from 1814 to 1945.

As far as I remember you will find FRICK in the DGB #58 or #86 "Deutsches Geschlechterbuch", there are freedom fighters (1848/1849) with close relations to this family - but also him: http://www.deutsche-biographie.de/sfz17186.html, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilhelm_Frick: "the last of four children of Protestant teacher Wilhelm Frick sen. [b. 1837] (d. 1918) and his wife Henriette (née Schmidt) [1837 - 1893]"

The grandfather Wilhelm Frick has been farmer in Duchroth. (Bav. Palatinate)

Official birth certificates in this area had been issued since 1798, google for Standesamt at the Verbandsgemeinde.
