McCormick, Michael

I am trying to find birth information on my great-great-grandfather, Michael McCormick, born Sept. 29, 1826 or 1829.  I was told Tipperary Co., but that is not necessarily so.  He died February 12, 1912 in Gore of Lochaber, Ottawa Co., Quebec, Canada.  He was married to Barbara McKenzie, born in East Helmsdale, Loth Parish, Sutherland, Scotland.  Barbara died January 28, 1918 in Quebec.  They married about 1851.  They had 10 children:

William - 1850
John - 1852
Maville Jessy - 1854, possibly adopted
George Michael - 1855 - my great grandfather and member of Parliament
Thomas Hughes - 1857
Isabella Ellen - 1859
Charles James - 1863
Robert Arthur - 1865
Michael Daniel - 1870
Albert Ernest (Duncan) - 1871

According to Thomas Hugh's marriage record he was born in Canada (you list him as born 1857). Do you know where Michael and Barbara married? (Ireland, Scotland or Canada?)
Civil registration of births in Ireland started in 1864 so if Michael was born in Ireland in 1820s (not 1920s) then you would need to know where his family lived (parish if not actual townland not just the county) to start searching for church records.
Have you checked to see if there's an obituary in local paper when Michael died which might give details of his background? Also worth searching for local histories in the area he settled as they sometimes have biographical notes of early settlers.

The only date I have for the marriage of Michael McCormick and Barbara McKenzie is between 1850 and 182 in Gore of Lochaber, Ottawa County, Quebec, Canada.  This coming Monday I am mailing a request for a marriage certificate for them.  Hopefully this will show his parents.
