Hi Leanora,

I started at 5years old during the war on the shire horses on the farm we stayed on for a few weeks while Dad who was in the RAF was home on leave. Horse mad thereafter, I rode anything. From polo ponies to donkeys.  I used to ride the pony I bought for my children, I had one of my own as well.
I loved every minute of it.  Still do.

I got the 'bug' from the Irish side of the family so I am told.  Some of whom worked with horses all their lives.  My granddaughters have inherited it, they both ride when they can.

well I also think some of my family way back  breed horses in Ireland but  the stables burnt down and they only saved a few  horses.

so these were sold and the family moved to Scotland  to get away from the  troubles . but these are only distance memory's I have of family conversations i over heard as a child. Wish I had paid more attention them and  tracing the family would have been made easier.

It's said these day children are not told or don't want to know more about there roots. When we do all they people who could have help are sadly no longer with us and very much missed.

I know how you feel on that one, I have not been able to find Grans birth at all, have got marriage and death and all the census stuff but finding her birth so far has eluded me.

I am sure that none, or very few, of the young want to know these things, but as one gets older it somehow become more important.

I feel sorry for the kids who don't learn proper history any more, that way they get a sense of belonging.  Whoops going off topic mustn't do that!
