Any other suggestions welcome.

Don't know about Ashington, but Storrington is also close to Thakeham.

For the record there is no Benjamin Richardson baptising children in Storrington around the time.

The IGI Batch Number: C071211 gives his baptism date as 7 Feb 1707 not 1708, his father as Richard Richardson and mother as Ann(e).

It also adds the following possible siblings
JOSEPH RICHARDSON - Christening: 04 NOV 1705 Thakeham,
MOSES RICHARDSON - Christening: 18 MAY 1704 Thakeham,
MARY RICHARDSON - Christening: 01 JUL 1695 Thakeham,
SAMUEL RICHARDSON - Christening: 12 MAR 1696 Thakeham,
CATHERINE RICHARDSON - Christening: 02 JUN 1710 Thakeham,
MARGARET RICHARDSON - Christening: 18 JUL 1700 Thakeham,
DOROTHY RICHARDSON -  Christening: 30 APR 1702 Thakeham,
ANNE RICHARDSON -  Christening: 12 FEB 1692 Thakeham,

Roy, this date is not incompatible with a birth in 1708 in the modern system. Have you determined that the IGI date is not Old Style?

"Not incompatible", Is that a double negative meaning it IS compatible?

Whatever Stovepipe, I do appreciate the year differences produced when using the old style and new callenders (eg 1707/1708) but I was just repeating the dates as they are shown in the IGI.  Where did the original date Astrec has of 1708 come from?

What an odd question, Roy. A figure of speech in which a statement is expressed by denying its opposite is termed litotes and (lest your question raises any doubt) is not ungrammatical.

But to get back on topic, since the IGI date may be Old Style and astrec's year of 1708 may be in the modern style we cannot certainly say it is wrong. I accept you weren't contradicting astrec, but this wasn't immediately clear from your post, especially to readers unsure about O.S. dates.

Hi Stovepipe, Litotes is a new one on me.  We learn something new every day.

And (if I can start a sentence in this way) thanks for sending me a personal message Astrec.  I have replied, and hope you find the two other sources who both use the earlier date of 1707 of interest.
