I've got a nasty feeling you're right, which means I've little chance of tracking him down.  Glad I didn't send the fee for a record search, I think I would have lost my money!

Mack,

That's brilliant.  I really can't thank you enough for all your help.

Sandie

P.S.  Mack,
My husband has spoken to his elder brothers in the hope that the info. you've given me might spark something off in their memories.  Although they haven't been able to remember any more about the brothers, one did remember something about Elfryn.  I know you specialise in WW1 but I thought you might be able to answer my question.  Apparently Elfryn left the army in 1927/28 because he was wounded out - he was shot in the leg apparently - would this information help me find him or not?

sandie,if its true about him going in the army in 1918 and invalided out in 1927/28,then hes signed up as a regular,by this time hes done at least 9 years,BUT he signed up young, his service doesnt count till hes 18 all service before that will be as a boy soldier,at 17 and a half,he will be paid as a man,he wont see a penny of his first mans pay because his sergeant will take it off him,and that will go over the bar for a drink for those in his section, elfryn will do the same to the next youngster, its a sort of unknown tradition,i cant tell you where he was wounded,i know it was kicking off in the middle east, there were all sorts of mini conflicts going on,try the pensions records,i think his records are still with the army, mack

We know his Battalion were in Barrackpore and Dum-Dum, India from Nov. 1919-Nov.1927 and then in Aden until Feb.1929 - we managed to get that info. from SWB Museum.   I'll tell my husband to contact the Pensions Records Office and remind him to mention his father was invalided out, with any luck..

Thanks again for your help.

Mack,

I agree, it's appalling.  I've read it several times now, each time figuring out another word.
