Where are the Walker children?
« on: Sunday 06 June 10 16:35 BST (UK) »
I have found William Walker on the 1861 census married to Jane and living at Slamannan -birth year shown as 1829 but it is actually 1827, along with their 4 children aged 5,3,1 and under 1 month.
However in the next census 1871 William and Jane are still at Slamannan along with 3 children born in the 1860's but no sign of the previous 4, nor can I trace the children elsewhere.
Would it really be likely that all 4 of them had died between 1861-1871 ?

Any help would be much appreciated
Thank you
Sandra

Hi Sandra

IGI on familysearch is currently down for site maintenance so hard to double check at present. What was wife Jane's surname?  Have you checked for early deaths on Scotlands People?

Looking at the 1861 and 1871 census, certainly looks like the same family group. One possibility for eldest from 1861 in the 1871 census:

Margaret Walker, 15, agr. labourer, b. Slamannan, Linlithgowsh (this comes from the transcription, not sure what the actual image will say regarding county) at Dechmont West, Livingstone, West Lothian, in the Mikle household.

IGI looks to be up and running now  :) Jane's maiden name Johnston? Does look to be potentially lots of early deaths for their children. Not sure why though so many of the entries showing from a parent search on IGI are given as submitted entries. For this period, they should show as actual extract from the statutory registers  :-\
