Owen Richard Pughe Owen -Surgeon in Bala

Hello,

Owen Richard Pughe Owen is my great grandmothers brother and he was born in Conway in 1861.  He qualified as a physician/surgeon (not sure where?) and married Theresa Roberts in Bala in 1886.  On the 1991 census he is living in Bala, with his wife and two children Margaret and William Thomas.  He died in 1893 in Bala, but I can find no details about why he died so young (32)?  Given he was a surgeon I thought there may have been an obituary or mention in the papers, but so far I've found nothing.  I hope to visit the Merioneth archives later in the year, but until then can anyone shed any liight on my Great Uncle please?

British Medical Journal 30 Apr 1881 p.709 noted the graduation of OR Pughe Owen
with a medical degree at Edinburgh University, The Edinburgh Medical Journal of
1884 added that he was from Dolgellau.

British Medical Journal 29 July 1893 reported his death very briefly and
Ygenedl Cymreig, a Caernarfon weekly, printed an appeal for creditors of his
estate  to come forward on 25 Apr 1893. He died on 4 Apr 1893.

On the 1871,  he's in Bala with his parents, William and Margaret. Here, he's down as being born Conway:

Hi Gadget,

Yes he was born in Conway where his father was a bank manager, so not sure why there is an Orkney birthplace?  I don't have access to the details of the Scottish census to see if it's a transcription error, but it must be, or a remarkable coincidence.

I would think that Mr Robertson, his landlord, got confused when he was filling in the schedule - but it just goes to show how we should take census info with a pinch of salt and look to other evidence for confirmation
