COMPLETED - Terry/Grove Marriage look up

Thank you both very much for all your help.

This Terry/Tarry family are a little difficult to crack, as I have found that James Terry b 1837, Milton married Olive Prior Oct 1859 in Milton and according to 1871 and 1881 census they had 3 children
Sarah Ann b 1856 and Samuel b 1860 both in Steventon and then Edwin James b 1876 in Milton.
There is a 15/16 year gap from Samuel to Edwin and cannot find any other children born to James and Olive.

James appears to have died 1877 and Olive remarried 1881 to Richard Ballard.

I am just wandering, if in fact, Edwin James is not their son but grandson and who is his parents?

 Looking at the Steventon PRs (ex OFHS) I find these baptismal entries;

28-9-1856 (born 23-7-1856) Sarah Ann,  baseborn dau of Olive Pryor.
29-4-1860 (born 29-2-1860) Samuel  s/o James & Olive Tarry

Marriage;
16-10-1859 TARRY, James full age, Bach, Labr Steventon, s/o Giles Tarry, Labr
                 PRIOR, Oliph     "    "    S                    "        d/o Israel Prior, Labr
wits; James Bedwell, Hannah Prior

There is also this baptism; 25-7-1845 James s/o Richard & Sophia TARRY, Labr


In the Milton PRs is this burial;
1-11-1877 James Terry  age 39

Certainly the PRs state that Edwin James is the son of James & Olive TERRY bapt. 4-6-1876

I think the choice is yours.

I just thought that if he were not their son, but maybe their grandson, because of the age difference with other siblings, he may have been told when he was older and thus put on marriage certificate, the true identity of his father, if he did marry.

Looks like James Tarey married Dinah Stone, 22-8-1813 in Steventon,
wits; William Challice, Thomas Greenaway. By Banns.
 - alas no other details recorded.
 He may have elected not to use the name Edwin.
James Tarrey buried 21-8-1828 age 35 years

Apologies if I may have confused you with my previous chats.

My Edwin James Terry/Tarry was born in Milton in 1876 and now am lead to believe he married Annie Stevens in 1896.  I do not know which village only in the Abingdon district.

Any more help/guidance would be appreciated.

Could be an enumerators mistake?
From my experience illegitimate Grandchildren could be brought up as children of the Grandparents.
I have never seen one Christened as the child of the Grandparents though.
I think you need his Birth Cert and Marriage Cert and Death Cert to try and confirm anything and put your mind at rest.

Even more of a quandry, as I was assured Edwin married Annie Stevens on this date.

One final thing would you be able to confirm the parents of:

Nellie May Janet Terry born 29 Jan 1899, Abingdon, please?

If her parents are not who I think they are, then I have been following the wrong branch of this tree.
