Standard Hotel, Harcourt St, Dublin
« on: Thursday 10 June 10 15:01 BST (UK) »
As part of my digging into the Bloody Sunday killings, 21 Nov 1920, I came across a reference to a raid that the IRA made that morning on Standard Hotel, Harcourt St, Dublin, only to find that their targets were not there

I cannot find it as a hotel today, but someone with knowledge of local geography can probably help me, as I have also this little snippet

Michael Collins' offices at 76 Harcourt Street were raided in November 1919 and he escaped down the skylight of the Standard Hotel next door, cracking a rib in the process.

Modern Harcourt Hotel is at number 60, so I assume that is not it.

I dont see the Hotel listed in Thom's 1914, but is does appear in the 1927 edition : (was looking at the wrong edition - see below)

I's listed in the 1927 edition of Thom's :

79-82 Harcourt St - The Standard Hotel

The building is shared with the Dutch Consulate a J.R.A.W. Weenick and is at the junction with Clonmel St.

Number 76 is listed as a Catholic Girls Hostel

Thanks Shane

I'll pick it up in the Multimap view you put me onto recently. Probably even see Collins skylight.

Amazing, you can see the skylights in that Multimap view

Just as well its not a hotel - they always seen reluctant to admit that anything like a murder happened within their walls.
