I wonder if this is the Marriage of Joseph & Mary Ann ?

Marriages Dec 1886

Evans  Joseph    Leigh  8c 312
Grundy  Hannah     Leigh  8c 312
HEATON  James     Leigh  8c 312
MORRIS  Mary      Leigh  8c 312

I see a Mary Morris born c1859 Walthamstow, in Service in St Pancras in 1881

11, Calthorpe Street - RG11; Piece: 195; Folio: 37; Page: 41

but I cant get a positive Id in 1871 or 1861 .... I suspect her parents are Benjamin & Eliza, but not 100%

Hope this will help  :)

Thank you Mort29, Neil, LM, and Andrea

Mary Evans died 20th February 1940 age 81
which fits with the records.

I had wondered about Mary Morris in 1881 previously but wasn't sure whether Walthamstow could become Walton-on-Naze by 1901. That is one reason that I started the thread, so that I'd know which reg district.  Like Andrea I always try GENUKI first  :)

Thanks again
Morgan

there are many examples of Enumerators doing this sort of thing as they copied the Householders schedule information into their summary pages.

another point is that no Mary with that DoB admits to being born in Walton on the Naze in earlier census and fits as well as the lady with those correctly named children in 1891.

Have you located the family in the 1911 Census?

Methinks you may have to invest in at least one Birth Certificate to sort this out  :)

Mort29, Thank you so much for your help. I am awaiting 2 MIs for the daughters and once I have those I can send for birth certificates.

I haven't looked for them in 1911 yet; with the football freeby last Friday I concentrated on more unusual surnames  :)

I feel more confident now that Mary Morris is the right person and a birth cert will confirm it.

Thanks again
Morgan
