Dowling - Newcastle West
« on: Sunday 13 June 10 20:03 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find my grandparents family who lived in Newcastle West. Their names are John Dowling and Margaret Breen and they married in 1936 in Newcastle West. I believe they had five children.  I think I've found them on the 1911 Irish census, but cannot be sure as I don't have any birth/marriage certs for them. I'd be really grateful for any info as I know absolutely nothing about them.

I think the place to start would be the marriage cert for John and Margaret. There's a good match on the BMD index in the right year and district :

 Name: John Dowling
 Registration District: Newcastle
 Event Type: Marriage
Quarter and Year: Jan - Mar 1936
 Volume : 5 / Page : 273

 Name: Margaret Breen
 [same index details]

A marriage cert will show their residences at the time of marriage, father's names etc. See the topic : Introduction to Irish Records for information on searching the index, ordering BMD certs, details included on certs etc

The BMD index also shows possible details of 5 children born to this couple, which I will not mention here. To  search for these use the advanced option search on the index.

Thank you for your reply. I too think this is the right marriage for my grandparents (both now dead) and my aim is to get the certificate, the only problem at the moment is that the Irish record Office is not digitilised and I don't have an Irish bank account and don't fancy sending credit card details through the post. So I'm just playing the waiting game at the moment.
Thanks for the links though, I'll definitely follow them up.

The HSE (Heath Service Executive ) also have a new secure website for ordering certs at : http://www.hse.ie/lifeevents/

I've never used this but might be worth a look...
