Andrew Cochrane
« on: Monday 14 June 10 07:13 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am hoping that someone may be able to assist with the origins of this man.  Andrew Cochrane was born in Shercock County Cavan Ireland in 1850, and died in Sydney in 1916.  He travelled to Australia from Plymoth in 1877, married and had 5 children, and worked mainly as a publican.

I have no idea who his parents are, whether he had siblings, etc, so any information on him would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Daree

Andrew was born before civil registration of births began in 1864 so you will need to search church records. Some Cavan records are available on www.irish-roots.ie €5 to view each record but it's free to search. A quick look shows only one Andrew Cochrane but he was  born in 1881.
Do you know what religion he was? The only records for Shercock on that site are Church of Ireland.
There is also an index on www.irishgenealogy.ie but again no Andrew Cochrane shows up.

You could also have a look at Griffiths Valuation on www.askaboutireland.ie. This lists all the heads of household around 1850 & will let you see where in Cavan the Cochrane families lived.
