Hi,
My GGGrandfather was a Groom and a Gardener on my GGrandmother's birth certificate, and I just wondered if anyone knew whether this would involve working for the upper classes? He started off as a Dray Boy on the 1871 census, was a Carrier in 1880, then a Groom and a Gardener in 1881, and a Groom and Coachman in 1891.
Does anyone know what these jobs would have involved? He lived in Nottingham.
Thanks for your time.
