Sherrin/Shern Family Cork
« on: Tuesday 15 June 10 15:20 BST (UK) »
Hello There

Kate SHERRIN, born 1884 , always said that she was born Cork, but she and her sister Elizabeth SHERRIN born 1888 ,  state on 1901 and 1911 British census, that they were born at Walworth in London.........There is no sign of them prior to 1901 in England, and I have searched, searched and searched again.....

Family story also had it that three brothers , perished at sea in WW1

I have only just , today , found these two young men.....

Peter T SHERN / 1889 / Stoker 1st class / Impregnable , Devonport / born Cork
and
William SHERN / 1893 / Stoker 2nd class / Royal Naval Barracks, Devonport / born Carrgalin , Cork

I cannot find any mention of their demise

I am told that the girls left home, when their father HENRY remarried. He was descesed by 1908, when Kate married

Can anyone help ?

Thank you

JeannieR

Hi I'm David great grandson of Elizabeth Sherrin I also was told {by my mother Valerie Linnell who was brought up by Elizabeth as her mum was not around}  that the two sister's {Kate & Elizabeth} came from County Cork! though I can't find any trace before 1901 census also heard about the two brothers killed in the great war I can't find them either your Post on here is the closest I've come to find family from Sherrin side. Elizabeth married Thomas Linnell in Leicestershire

I think Mark Quick could also be Henry Quick.

Here he is living with William Sherrin and his family in 1911
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWPK-JRY

William Sherrin gives his father as deceased William Sherrin on his marriage but he does have Henry Quick boarding with him  :-\

I don’t know if this is your family though.

In 1911, Thomas Sherrin is living with his wife in Erith, Kent.

There is a death of Private Thomas Sherrin, Erith, Kent. He is son of the late Henry Sherrin and husband of Alice.

The children seemed to have retained their mother’s surname (can’t see a marriage to Quick) and used Henry as the name of their father. Presumably he was as they were registered as Quick but you could purchase a copy of a birth certificate to check.
