Joseph Byrne a lost cause

This is the story of Joseph Byrne. He was born or came to Australia about 1865. He may have been born in England. His parents may be John Byrne and Sarah Anne Bancroft. He might have sisters. He gives several years of birth throughtout his life. On marriage certificate he was born about 1864. On sons birth certificate he was born about 1863. On death certificate her was born about 1860. His mother Sarah Anne Byrne died in Australia and her headstone says she had been in Australia for 41 years placing her arrival about 1865. Sarah was born about 1830. Is this a hopeless case or can I find out the truth behind this man.
