This is definitely the family because in 1891 JB's family are listed at the same farm in Llansilin under surname BATHER.  Including the youngest son William Cartwright Bather age 4   ref RG12/2115/33/3

I wonder why everyone changed their surnames ???

Just seen this part of the request:

Bits about JB's mother, Mary "Maiden name either Morris or Stone, from Pontfadwg/Chirk, widowed and later married a Mr Turner."

I'll see what I can find tomorrow on this - a bit late now!

If James born c 1833 is found to be the son of an Edward born in c 1801 then your John is a first cousin to my Catherine, she being the daughter of a Richard born around 1833.

From - the census information on Mary Batha, nee Morris -

1861 RG09/1876/39/5
1871 RG10/2779/35/11
1881 RG11/2656/35/3
1891 RG12/2115/33/3

- she was born Llansilin circa 1840

The nearest one that I can find  on the 1851 is with parents Thomas and Sarah, both born Llansilin:

Bryn Sais(?), Lledrod, Llansilin HO107/1993/235/18

The most likely marriage on the IGI is:

Llansilin, 8 May 1837 Thomas Morris and Sarah Davies

From the same census info, James Batha was born Llansilin circa 1831.

I don't see him at the moment on the 1851 but in 1841 he (and a possible brother Richard) seems to be living with a Catherine Jones,35,  farmer,  at Pantre Porth (?) which next to Cilrhiw  HO107/1401/bk18/7/6

This is the most likely baptism:

Llansilin 19 Nov 1831 James s/o John Batha and Mary

also

Llansilin 10 March 1833 Richard s/o John Batha and Mary

I'll do some more searching of my records later today.

I've just noticed that James and Mary Batha are living with Catherine Jones at Pentre Porth on the 1861 census - reference as previous posting.

James is described as 'nephew'

I think that this would be James and Richard Batha's parents' marriage:

Llansilin 7 Oct 1831 John Batha and Mary Jones

It's thus probably that Catherine Jones was Mary's sister

I wonder if it was this John and Mary who had the Glynceiriog/Pontfadog/Chirk connections
