PS

As you have evidence that your brothers are also from there. it looks as if there may well be a connection.

PS This also adds credance to my theory that my John may be the brother of your ancestor or failing that, a cousin.

I have a William who I believe is John's uncvle in Salford from Castlebellingham area and John;s witness at his martriage was also a John Hoey I;m guessing a cousin.

My line came through Dublin where our John was born.

There are loads of Dublin entries on line and I've found entries for all my Salford Hoeys, there, in between the England entries.

Worth a look for you?

Best wishes

Hi Emms

I seem to remember you telling me a long time ago that you had Donohoe/Donoghue that was someway related to your Hoey.

Came across this today, which you might find of intrest.
Hoey and O'Donoghue related and the later from Collon Co Louth.

Hi, I have been reading this thread with great interest. I have been looking for Daniel Hoey born about 1800, father to Edward Hoey born in Edmonton London in 1825.

Daniel was in the Royal Navy and I might be able to get a birth place from these records If I go to Kew.

However I wondered if anyone is able to check their records to see if they could find out if they have a Daniel Hoey, Louth seems to be a hotbed for this family, and Ireland would likely be the birth place. Regards Peter.

Hi Peter

Daniel is a name I've often seen around my Hoeys but not one I've seen in the proven direct lines.

You said your Daniel was in the Royal Navy.  Have you tried looking on line for the records?  You may not have to wait until you can visit Kew.

I can't remember the details and the years covered, but there are various military records on Ancestry, findmypast and also covered by the uk National Archives catalogoe.  If the record isn't online from the National Archives you can usual request an estimate and then a copy.

We do have an odd Edward in the cousins who went to London selling potatoes - I think he was a traveller.  He went from Lancashire England, but later than your date - mid 19C.

Good luck with the search!

Best wishes

PS Do you have any more details for your family which might help us narrow them down or find links?

Hi FS 2011

I'm sorry I missed your last post on this thread.  It came when I wasn't online much and it was the end of the last page.  I just saw it when I dropped further down the reply page to reply to Peter.

I'm going to have a look at it and another look at the photo's as they look fascinating and things got glossed over a bit here, late last year.

Thank you and best wishes

Emms :)

Hi all

I've just been reading it all aain as I didn't really have chance at the time to take it in.  This is just a thank you to everyone because nearly all that people have written is of interest even though I'm getting close but still at the narrowing down stage.

I'm sure all your comments will help in that process and I will get back to you all, but it may be a while before I can look at everything as most of my notes are about fifty miles away and will be for a while.

Having said that everything you've given me will keep me out of mischief for a while!!! ;) ;) ;) :)
