Hi dee,
Yes, the newspapers do suggest that both father and son were in Victoria.

When GRETCHEN died 9/4/1926, she was a widow living in Kew.

 ;)Hi all,

I joined today and maybe I could help.  We have a Henry Durbridge in our family tree who married Sarah Woodley in Victoria.  They then moved to NSW and changed their name to Delbridge.  They had 5 children all born in Victoria, 4 sons and one daughter.  Did your Edward have other male relatives in Australia?

Hi Kimrod,
Welcome!

I can  see on http://proarchives.imagineering.com.au/Index_search.asp?searchid=23

Unassisted immigrant in 1856

The arrival of EDWARD DELBRIDGE snr. aged 47 on Morning Star
He came with MARY 40
Thomas 4
Lydia
Louisa 9
John 11
Eliza 14

So this family arrived under the name DELBRIDGE (no changes!)

NOW, we are not so sure about the JANE CARTER/Edward DELBRIDGE marriage.  EDWARD senior died 1877,leaving estate to MARY, so it is not him, and Edward jnr leaves estate to wife GRETCHEN, so it does not seem to be him either !

Hi

EDWARD's name is not included on the passenger list with parents and siblings (above)

As he was the eldest son, it appears he came ahead of his parents.

His marriage to ANN SAUNDRY BENNETTS is a year before the parents' voyage.

Here is mention of ISAAC DELBRIDGE the second son of EDWARD DELBRIDGE snr.
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/5694722?searchTerm="isaac delbridge"

Perhaps the 2 young men came together.  I cannot locate their arrival.

Sue

PS.
A word on GRETCHEN ... a marriage notice gives a detail that she was the daughter of Herr Von Marens formerly of Magdebourg Prussia.

Hi all, I'm starting to put the family tree together too. I have bits and pieces of info from different sources. Henry Durbridge who married Sarah - story I got as a child was that her father wouldn't let them get married so they eloped to NSW when she was pregnant with their 2nd child. I haven't researched to see if this is true. There is a post on Ancestry.com re the story but one has to be a paid member to access it.
