If that's him, and assuming he married sometime between 1911 and 1915 in the Arklow area, then this is the best match I see for his marriage in the BMD Index :

 Name: Michael Fitzgerald
 Registration District: Rathdrum
 Event Type: Marriage
Quarter and Year: Jul - Sep 1914
 Volume : 2 / Page : 893

I dont see a cross match with a Catherine or Kate..

It's a stab in the dark by searching marriages for common first names in the same district and quarter ...but I've found at least one cross match for the marriage :

 Name: Mary Leeson
 Registration District: Rathdrum
 Event Type: MARRIAGES
Quarter and Year: Jul - Sep 1914
 Volume : 2 / Page : 893

I wouldn't include this possible detail if you were ordering a cert, as there can be false cross matches... but thought I'd mention it in case the name rings any bells...

Thanks for the help.

I have seen that census before, but I can't find any details of his marriage or the person he married.

Is the only way to get the marriage cert or is there likely to be other records hidden away somewhere?

Thanks again,

Andrew

The next step is a marriage cert.. you need the details on that (i.e. his name and occupation) to confirm if it's the correct marriage..

Didi he stay in Arklow with his wife and family ?

A birth certificate for one of the children will list mother's name.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I'm pretty sure he stayed in Arklow.

I think I'll ask around in the family to see if this info jogs any memories. And see if there are any Certs hanging around.

Thanks for your help.

I dont see a good match for a birth of a Michael Fitzgerald in the Rathdrum district (which covers Arklow town) around 1915...

maybe if you could locate some other details on him (or the other children) - e.g. death notices etc, that could narrow down the ages a bit
