Times online look up please.

If anyone is a member of times online could they possibly do  a look up please. Samuel Winkworth 1908 in the law section. I would be very greatful if someone could let me know what it says. I believe it to be hubbys grandad who was in Swansea prison in th 1911 census.

The report I looked at was for an appeal against his conviction..the crime is mentioned. Is this the one you looked at?

Yes i think so. It was assault against a young girl. Just wanted a bit more info really, when he went in and his release etc. Also what kind of assault, thats the worrying thing!!

I shall have a look at the detail later for you Nicky but it doesn't sound like a 'nice kind of assault'.

There is also the same named person in the Manchester Guardian Jun 24 1912 charged with forgery in Monmouth Assize Court when he was being led away from the witness box 'he sprang at a young woman and struck her several blows in the face'. He was given 3 years for the forgery.

The Monmouthshire Assizes for both of this cases should be at the National Archives if you search under 'Oxford Circuit' for details.

A local newspaper should give you more info on Samuel's activities as well.
