I know this is quite an oldie post, but I happened to see the "Ferdinando Casson" bit. there are several generations of Ferdinand/ Ferdinando Cassons in Westmorland/Cumbria, and most of them seem to be from one particular tree - think it's linked with Lewthwaits, or similar, where the first one pops up. Could be worth seeing if there are links there?
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)
